MURDER MYSTERY WEEKEND

Spectrum 48K/128K+2
SEPTEMBER '96 was rather hectic for you, A.D. Venturer, what with
endeavouring to acquire a ticket for the Adventurers Convention -
not an easy task as it involved applying a stamp to an envelope,
writing an address and a cheque and completing a form - and then
booking a room in Birmingham's Royal Angus, a Thistle Hotel. The
latter was made more difficult by the fact that a Conference of
Uncivil Servants was being held and they had booked many rooms.
However, after some arm-twisting (to put it mildly), a hotel room
was secured. You could not conceal the fact that your sorcery was
more than anything responsible for the success of these efforts.
You had to feel sorry for people who do not possess these
supernatural powers!
OCTOBER '96 didn't present the slightest bit of commotion to you
and everything was pretty much plain sailing. Before you ask, you
were not out in the middle of nowhere in a dinghy. At least not
to my knowledge - and I should know! So it was on one cold, rainy
morning that you struggled up with a splitting hangover and
stumbled out to the kitchen to cook breakfast. You plumped for
a bowl of All Bran instead, for obvious reasons. Having visited
the "smallest room" (the least said about that the better), you
made your way out to your car and drove all the way to
Birmingham. The journey lasted a matter of hours and, as you were
sipping at a litre of Indian Tonic Water on the way, your head
felt perfectly clear when you arrived. It was a pity that the
same could not be said about your indigestion.
You were going to have to check into the hotel, but this would
not be as easy as you'd thought for the simple reason (as if
anything is simple in this life) that you have many puzzles
to solve before you can possibly meet your friends. But you are
a seasoned adventurer, hence your name, and it would sorely pose
no problem to you? At least that's the general idea. If my
expectations don't match your experiences, then I can hardly be
blamed for lack of foresight or something! You lay back in your
car, remembering just one word that had been emblazoned in your
mind ever since you read the itinerary that had been sent to you
by a helpful follow adventurer:
MURDER MYSTERY WEEKEND
This game accepts all the usual adventuring commands. It will
certainly help to converse with your fellow adventurers using the
format SHARON TELL ME ABOUT THE JOURNEY or ASK JOHN FOR THE
DEERSTALKER. Most of the more common verbs can be abbreviated to
their initial letters and the ALL command will make life easier
when you want to TAKE, DROP and, indeed, EXAMINE a large number
of objects. You can use pronouns (IT, HER and HIM) for previously
referenced objects or characters to save typing time! QS and QL
will save to and load from memory quickly - without a prompt.
Finally, a big thanks to everyone who attended the Convention,
without whom this game simply wouldn't have been possible.
