Something in front of you says three or four words. You have sixteen seconds
to say something better.
Words of Power: Logos is a duel fought with vocabulary. Your opponent speaks;
you type a sentence back before the clock runs out; whichever is worth more wins
the exchange, and the loser's energy pays for it. Twelve opponents wait, and
each one gives you less time than the last.
It is not a typing test. What a word is worth has almost nothing to do with how
long it is:

Rare letters pay, and rare words pay more. Three good ones beat a sentence of
ten dull ones, and the clock means you rarely have room for both.
Four rules underneath that, and they are the whole game.
Start a word on the letter the last one ended on and the entire sentence pays
more — each link worth more than the one before, so a chain planned under time
pressure is where the big numbers come from. One of your opponent's words is
yellow; type that one back at it and it counts double. A word you have already
used is worth less and recovers over the next few rounds, so your five best
words are not a strategy. And falling short still gets something through, just
as winning still costs you something — no round is ever wasted, and none is ever
safe.
Leave the title screen alone for fifteen seconds and the game explains all of
this itself, in its own words.
The machine knows 48,000 words.
That is the part that took the longest. A 128K Spectrum cannot hold a
dictionary, so it holds a shape of one: four sharded Bloom filters across four
banks, 64K of them, that never reject a real word and accept about one made-up
string in forty-three. The four rarity classes fall out of the same 64K, which
is why a word's class and its existence cost one lookup between them.
